Len Morrissey
ASTM International Director, Technical Committee Operations Division
Len Morrissey is a director in the Technical Committee Operations Division of ASTM International, one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world.
In his role, he leads a team that coordinates the standardization activities of over 50 ASTM Technical Committees covering a diverse portfolio of global industry sectors ranging from petroleum products to construction materials and systems to remediation of environmental hazards to the design and operation of amusement rides and devices. In addition, he has direct responsibility for operational and strategic initiatives specifically related to consumer safety by managing Committee F15 on Consumer Products. With jurisdiction of over 100 separate international safety standards, Len oversees a process that proactively addresses hazards for a wide range of product categories such as toys, durable juvenile products, portable gas cans, playgrounds, furniture safety, portable pools and children’s jewelry. These standards are used worldwide by industry, test labs, retailers and regulators to make sure products are safe and many have been made mandatory product rules through incorporation into laws such as the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). The work of this Committee has been twice recognized with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Chairman’s Commendation Award for its role in advancing the safety of consumers.
In 2015, Len’s duties were expanded to include responsibility for ASTM’s Canada Office with a focus on supporting the needs of Canadian stakeholders within the ASTM process and with advancing strategic initiatives in support of the use and application of ASTM standards throughout North America. Morrissey currently sits on the National Public Safety Advisory Council (NPSAC) and serves as the Vice Chair of the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee (SDOAC) under the auspices of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Len holds a bachelor of arts degree in Letters, Arts and Sciences with additional concentrations in Business and History and a masters degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Villanova University.
