Senior Counsel to Commissioner Elliot Kaye
Jana Fong-Swamidoss is Chief Counsel to Commissioner Elliot F. Kaye of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  From September 2014 to February 2017, she also served as Chief of Staff and Chief Counsel to Commissioner Kaye during his tenure as Chairman of the CPSC.  Ms. Fong-Swamidoss first joined the CPSC in 2009 as the Deputy Director for the Office of Legislative Affairs, and was Senior Counsel to Commissioner Robert S. Adler from 2010 to 2014.  She worked at Venable, LLP in Washington, D.C. as a Counsel in 2014.
Prior to working at the CPSC, she served as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), acting as a liaison between FTC staff and the Congress on privacy and data security issues as well as deceptive marketing and unfair advertising claims.  Ms. Fong-Swamidoss also worked on Capitol Hill for over 7 years, serving as a Counsel on the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the CPSC, the FTC, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and as a Legislative Assistant to the late U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii.
Ms. Fong-Swamidoss holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. and a B.A. in Communication Studies from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
