George Borlase, Ph.D, PE

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
Assistant Executive Director, Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction
Dr. George Borlase currently serves as the Assistant Executive Director for Hazard Identification and Reduction at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).


He and his staff are responsible for responsible for managing efforts to identify and mitigate the risk of injury associated with consumer products, including the development of new mandatory safety regulations and new voluntary standards, conducting product safety assessments and product testing in support of compliance actions, and monitoring research for consumer products in a broad array of disciplines.


He previously served at CPSC as the Associate Executive Director for Engineering Sciences.  He worked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; served at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Federal Government Fellow; worked at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory; and served 10 years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.
