Companies undertake a variety of activities to identify, understand, and manage supply chain related risks. These risks range from product quality, to regulatory compliance, to social concerns, to environmental sustainability. Foundational to effective supply chain management is understanding the participant’s in a company’s supply chain. In an environment where ​Transparency​ is the new norm - knowing the supply chain is critical. Through emerging technologies, companies are increasingly able to understand and affirm critical assertions related to the composition of their supply chain. These technologies range from supply chain mapping and management platforms to blockchain applications to enabling and enhancing technologies using DNA forensics. In all cases, through technology - including Big Data Analytics and Distributed Computing - companies are better positioned to have more confident insight into the location, processes and activities outside of their direct control.
