Breakout #06: Seeking Safer Chemicals Beyond Regulatory Requirements (repeating)

Consumer product brands and retailers are taking proactive steps to screen and select safer chemicals for products and processes. These efforts began with regulatory requirements like the REACH Regulation and Toy Safety Directive in Europe as well as California Proposition 65 in the US. Brands are moving beyond these drivers in response to pressure from NGOs, consumers, and other non-regulatory stakeholders. Coming to the forefront of these brand and retailer efforts is a growing culture of collaboration and alignment. Brands and categories are creating harmonized restricted substance lists to make it easier for suppliers to identify the priority chemicals of concern for action. But this work is going beyond the conventional list-checking processes to proactively screen and score formulations so supplier can objectively select safer formulations. In this panel discussion you will hear from professionals active in this collaborative work to describe these developments, provide examples, and offer ideas on how your company can engage as a supplier, brand, or retailer.
